Testing, Testing, Testing
March and April are full of testing dates. These are extremely important days in our school year. The test scores are how we are graded for our performance as a school. VHS has been fortunate to score well over the past years and we have made high enough to meet the standards set by the Department of Education. Each year the bar goes up and so has our students’ test scores. Please help us to continue this quest by making sure that your child has plenty of sleep the night before each test and a good breakfast that morning.
Here are the dates for the testing which involves all students in grades 3 - 8: March 24 and 25 for the Alabama Reading and Math Test (ARMT) and March 30, 31, and April 1 for the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT-10). Testing will begin at 8:00 A.M. each morning. Please have your child at school and on time each day. We are penalized for any student who misses the test and we try to make sure all have taken each section by giving make-up tests on March 26 and April 2.
On April 6 we will give the Alabama Science Test to grades 5 and 7. The next day, April 7 we will give the Alabama Writing Exam to all students in grades 5, 7 and 10.
We are completing a week long testing on the Alabama Graduation Exam tomorrow. Then on May 18 and 19 the seniors will take their final semester exams. All students in grades 7 – 11 will have semester exams on May 25 and 26 with make-up exams on the 27th.
Remember that we have now used our two weather days for this semester so we will be having school on April 2 and May 7 which were originally scheduled to be off days to make up for the two days we have had to take because of the bad weather. Also remember that Spring Break is March 15 – 19. There will be no school those days.
